the zimmermans / CUT
The debut record from the zimmermans, the cult DC band that Spottiswoode and several of his Enemies were part of during the 1990s. Fronted by the remarkable Lisa Engelken, the zimmermans were one-of-a-kind, the only band to play the premiere jazz, punk, rock, and folk venues in the District of Columbia. They even caught the lounge craze when Spottiswoode & Engelken's song Portuguese Woman was included in the nationally released LIVIN' LOUNGE compilation.
Recorded and mixed live by Jeff Severson in one day-long session, CUT is a raw collection of some of Spottiswoode's early songs. These include later reprises such as It Is Time and You Will Rise Again. The record also includes co-writes with Engelken and a track by Tom Watson, the trumpeter.
Featuring Lisa Enegelken on vocals and accordion, Spottiswoode on vocals and electric guitar, John Young on bass, Tim Vaill on drums, Tom Watson on trumpet and Chris Watling on saxophone.
